This session will cover the various tax classifications and exemptions imposed on real estate in addition to addressing accounting and tax issues for development projects.

This module goes over the seven stages and eight tasks of the Real Estate Development Matrix, then focuses on the first task, Acquisition. It covers the subtasks of acquisition including feasibility studies, underwriting, contract negotiations, due diligence reviews and closing conditions and outlines various acquisition strategies.

This module explores the new, in-demand building types for infill, the trends and policies at the municipal and state levels that support redevelopment of industrial space in urban locations, and why the benefits outweigh the risks and cost.

This module goes over the fifth task in the matrix, Approvals and Permits. It outlines the process of seeking approvals and permits from various authorities, describes the complexities of working with the multiple authorities and agencies that grant approvals and permits, recommends communication and negotiation strategies, and provides best practices for addressing common challenges.

This module goes over the fourth stage of the development process in which building developers buy a building-ready property from land developers, construct a building, and then sell it to building operators or continue to the building operations stage themselves.

This module will provide a thorough overview of financing and investing in development.

This module outlines the fifth stage of the development process in which building operators create value by converting an empty constructed building to a portfolio of leases with satisfied tenants and accurate record keeping.

This module goes over the sixth stage of the development process in which building renovators buy properties which have substantial economic and/or physical depreciation and create value by fixing these deficiencies without changing the use, then repositioning and operating the properties until they are ready for redevelopment.

This Module will address the interaction of real estate space markets with the real estate capital markets.

This module includes a two-part case study for property analysis for which students can apply the valuation and leverage fundamentals they have learned in this course.
